Swahili Coast Settlements

A team led by a Tanzanian archaeologist has challenged long held beliefs that the Swahili coast civilization - in East Africa- was heavily influenced by outsiders who arrived and created settlements trading with the local communities. After excavating an extensive cave just outside Zanzibar, he has discovered evidence of settlements, animal domestication contrary to the belief of exclusively nomadic indigenous communities . Based on his work African tribes from the inland and the coastal region lived in static communities.
